The UFC holds its last event of 2017 as it sets up the Octagon for UFC 219 at Las Vegas on December 30. The major event will see the dominant Cristiane”Cyborg” Justino place her UFC featherweight title at stake against Holly Holm.
There’s plenty to love beyond the stellar main event with the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov, Edson Barboza, Carlos Condit and Marc Diakiese on the card.
Cyborg vs Holly Holm
We observe Cyborg (-360) since she’s made a career out of destroying her opponents. Cyborg has always been one of the most aggressive fighters in the business but the former Invicta featherweight champion has learned to harness that thanks for her time with Rafael Cordeiro. The real meat to her game is the jab, as Cyborg will throw the jab out before an opponent feels the need to fire back then she will counter with rapid, fight-ending goals.
Cyborg is a huge fighter that possesses huge strength for demanding clinch conflicts — though she’s also technically well served in this region too. Her normal equilibrium and core power produce takedown attempts typically ineffective.
Holly Holm (+270) is at her best when she can dictate the distance and pace of the fight. The former professional fighter is excellent at picking away at her competition in the distance thanks to her clean, smooth footwork. At this distance,”The Preacher’s Daughter” tends to throw a continuous diet of lefts and then wait for her chance to counter. Although boxing was her first game, Holm has done a wonderful job adding kicks to her repertoire with the notorious Jackson-Wink oblique kick playing an important role. When a fight becomes dirty or she tries to move forward, the former bantamweight champion is much more hittable.
Concerning grappling, Holm is solid from the clinch and owns great takedown defense. But if an opponent can get Holm into the mat, then she does not offer much.
Holm is the stiffest challenge Cyborg has confronted since Gina Carano eight decades ago. Holm has the capacity to possibly frustrate Cyborg together with her movement and space management. Finally, Cyborg’s aggressive style will neutralize these benefits.
