Ian McCall was slated to fight Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 73 but sadly had to pull out due to injury. McCall (13-5) caught up with MMAOddsBreaker on Episode 115 of The Parting Shot Podcast that Sunday to talk about his most recent injury. Injury that compelled him from Dustin Ortiz fight at UFC Fight Night 73″I have a tear in my shoulder, in my labrum and a tear in my bicep. I mean I’m literally at the physicians now talking about it. It’s what it is, we train hard and I am fragile apparently. I must pull from a lot of s**t. It stinks, but when you train as hard as I do and you’ve been doing so as long as I do, its part of the match ” Career Plagued with Injuries”My UFC career was just been plagued with injuries and it is frustrating. This is my main source of income, I still have other things I do but that is my main source. I have a little girl to feed, that I feed my own and it sucks. However, on another note, this really is my enthusiasm; this is what I love to perform. I am 31 years old, I am not getting younger I’ve been in fights for 13 decades. To watch my body fail me time and time again it’s hard. It is one of those things it makes you wonder a good deal. I am such a healthy person, my household is like amazingly healthy, and you know my daughter has to have a really strict diet. I have had my hip, groin tear, that is bad. I’m sure I will need to get a hip replacement . I have had three hand surgeries. I got into an automobile accident not long ago and messed up my shoulder. It is always something, but it’s better than having an actual job.” Getting Positive and Optimistic”Most of my life I’ve been a pessimist to be honest. I look at it in different ways, it could be worse, I could be dead. I could have lost full use of my arm or anything. There are a lot of things I look at. I must keep a positive attitude because I must be a good role model for team-mates along with my little one. It is one of those things I’m not going to sit around and sulk. That is what it is, I will be al right.” Ideas on Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson II in UFC 191″Demetrious is ever evolving and I believe that today he’s found a little more power in his punches. His entire game is constantly changing and getting better. I believe he will conquer Dodson, is he likely to complete [him]? I don’t understand. I got overly emotional; I showed the first round that I could definitely overcome him. People were like’Oh he’s a bantamweight’ I do not care; the man still is not very good I must have overcome him. I believe I showed that you are not likely to knock me out even though you’re a big puncher. My face is going to split open before you knock me out and that’s precisely what happened. With me it’s outside things, they constantly distract me, woman issues or what have you. I just kind of fell apart after that round. I am smart enough to know I was going to lose that fight sitting . Anthony Kiedis and Dane White came around and said hello and I am just kind of like, I’m screwed. That was a mental thing, that has always been my main downfall. I have a brand new mental coach, he’s my thoughts Sherpa. He’s overall made me a better person. So far as goes, he is a big part of it.” Feeling Overlooked at Flyweight Division”I wouldn’t say overlooked, there’s other people to talk about. I blew it with John; I screwed up in that fight. So maybe I don’t deserve to be talked about it. Let us state this harm is 6 months, they will talk about me after that, that’s alright. There are other people who deserve it. I hang out with artists, fashion designers and musicians and stuff. They’re hideous, like Jose Aldo stated we look like f***kin Power Rangers. The equipment is really comfy; obviously Reebok makes a great product. I really don’t know who made the design, regardless of what generation we’re in 80’s 90’s, which does not fit anything, it’s just awful. But maybe I am wrong; maybe I’m looking for something a little cooler looking. Its performance based gear; that is all that matters. It’s an evolution of the game. We needed it to excel, sure we’re not likely to have paid that much money but it is what it is. In case you’ve got a issue then stop, these are the numbers we have to manage. If you are smart and you can market yourself and promote yourself in manners like I’ve. I have outside patrons; I have Layrite, which is similar to a hair and mustache product. I have got a great deal of clothes and lifestyle companies. I receive a lot of exposure from materials like that. People need to learn to step away from the box, make money for themselves and also have a wise agent” Thoughts on Reebok Deal”Yeah that would have been nice, but at the exact same time they operate a business.
